For writers trying to build an online presence traffic to your site is crucial. There are many ways to build traffic with engaging on other platforms (Twitter), producing excellent content and using services such as Stumble all being great choices. However, have you considered Google Adwords?
You know those text ads that you see in search results on Google. Well those are text ads that advertisers write and Google displays in relation to relevant keywords. The advertiser then pays each time someone clicks on the ad.
There are no rules that say only businesses can advertise and there is nothing stopping writers using the service. Say you have a blog that focuses on science fiction book reviews. There is no reason why you can’t set up Adwords to show your ad every time someone searches on ‘science fiction book’.
Here’s a couple of videos to get you started:

Hi Gary,
I just wanted to comment on this as I tried it for my own books. It is very expensive to use Adwords now, and I found a better alternative (if you have a budget) was Facebook ads. They are more targeted, cheaper and better response than Adwords. People can obviously test it themselves, but that was my experience.
I only did both for a short time as the costs did not justify the sales, when the margins are so low. I still use FB advertising for my own workshops and higher priced products, but not books.
Thanks – love the site! Joanna
I was concerned about the price of Google Adwords, too, when I saw this post. Thanks Joanna for suggesting FB ads, although that sounds a bit pricey, too. I love this site, too!
The price is high but Adwords can be used to promote a site, rather than a book. I suppose it is just another tool to try and promote yourself as a writer.
Adwords is a really great tool for promoting your website, forum or affiliate link. the ppc cost of adwords is even cheaper than Friendster or Facebook. before, i used to advertise on facebook but the ROI is so low. Adwords gives me a much better ROI compared to Facebook ads.
Thanks for feedback
